Ensuring Integrity in Cardiovascular Research

The Journal of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine (JCCM) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and originality in scientific publishing. We have a strict zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism, ensuring that all submitted manuscripts meet ethical and professional publication standards.

Plagiarism in any form—including direct copying, self-plagiarism, paraphrasing without proper citation, and improper use of published content—is a serious violation of ethical publishing practices. JCCM is committed to preventing and addressing plagiarism to safeguard the credibility of cardiovascular research.

Plagiarism Screening Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo rigorous plagiarism detection through advanced software such as iThenticate and Turnitin. This ensures the originality of research before peer review and publication.

The plagiarism screening process includes:

  • Checking for similarities with previously published articles, books, and online content.
  • Identifying duplicate submissions or overlapping content in different journals.
  • Ensuring proper citation of sources and references.
  • Reviewing self-plagiarism by authors, including redundant publication.

Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 15% (excluding references and commonly used terminologies) may be sent back to authors for revision or rejected outright.

Types of Plagiarism Considered Unacceptable

JCCM defines and actively monitors the following types of plagiarism:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying verbatim text from another source without proper attribution.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing one’s previously published content without proper citation or justification.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Rewording sections from different sources while maintaining the original structure without acknowledgment.
  • Fabrication and Falsification: Altering or misrepresenting research data to support findings.

Authors are strongly encouraged to ensure that their work is original, appropriately cited, and ethically sound before submission.

Consequences of Plagiarism

JCCM takes plagiarism offenses seriously and imposes the following actions:

  • Manuscript Rejection: Plagiarized submissions will be rejected without further review.
  • Author Blacklisting: Repeat offenders may be barred from submitting to the journal.
  • Retraction of Published Articles: If plagiarism is detected post-publication, the article will be retracted immediately.
  • Institutional Notification: In severe cases, the authors' affiliated institutions may be informed.

Authors found guilty of plagiarism may also face public disclosure of misconduct and formal actions under ethical publishing guidelines.

Guidelines for Authors

To maintain academic integrity, authors must:

  • Ensure proper citation of all referenced work.
  • Provide credit to previous research through appropriate acknowledgments.
  • Submit only original and unpublished work.
  • Use plagiarism detection tools before submission to verify originality.

For further guidance on plagiarism prevention, authors are encouraged to review the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.

Commitment to Ethical Publishing

JCCM is committed to maintaining the trust and credibility of cardiovascular research. By adhering to strict plagiarism policies, we ensure that all published articles contribute ethically and meaningfully to the scientific community.
